โœฆ Synopsis

The speed of sound has been measured in two methane-rich gas mixtures having nominal ลฝ . ลฝ compositions of 0.85CH q 0.15C H and 0.80CH q 0.10N q 0.05C H q 0.03C H q 4 2 6 4 2 2 6 3 8

. 0.02CO . The measurements were made with a spherical acoustic resonator on four 2 isotherms at TrK s 250, 275, 300, and 350 and at pressures between p s 0.1 MPa and p s 20 MPa. The final results for the two mixtures have an estimated overall uncertainty of "0.03 per cent. The speeds of sound in the limit of zero pressure have been estimated by extrapolation and the results generally agree with calculated values to within "0.01 per cent.

The experimental values for the speed of sound are compared with the predictions of the 1992 AGA8 equation of state. The results do not differ by more than 0.2 per cent at temperatures above T s 275 K but deviations of up to 1 per cent are found on the isotherms at T s 250 K.

The speed of sound u in carbon dioxide has been measured along seven isotherms at ลฝ . temperatures between 220 and 450 K by means of a spherical resonator. New measurements of the amount-of-substance densities r of nine mixtures of (water+methane) are reported in the temperature range 430 K to 699 K at pressures from 7.5 MPa to 30 MPa. The results have been obtained by using a fully automated isochoric instrument. The uncertainty in the experimental re
