Abstract
Results of a study of about 70 spectra of the horizontal components of gustiness in strong winds are described. From these and other published data the following expression for the spectrum of gustiness for strong winds in the lower layers is suggested:magnified image
Crossβspectra and crossβcorrelations of velocity between pairs of stations on a mast are given. From this it appears that the crossβspectra can be expressed as a simple function of the ratio of the vertical separation to the wavelength, no dependence on height being detectable.

## Abstract Information about wind velocity is generally obtainable in the form of mean hourly velocity and highest velocity in a gust at the level of the recording anemometer which, where possible, has an effective height (judged by the quality of exposure) approaching an agreed standard of 10 m.
