Synopsis
The specific heat of MnC12.4Hz0 has been measured from 1.0 to 4.2"K and from 14.5 to 22'K. A A-shaped anomaly in the C, vs T-curve is found having its maximum at 1.62"K. The anomaly is probably of magnetic origin, 1.62"K being the critical temperature at which the salt transforms from the antiferromagnetic to the paramagnetic state. The entropy change associated with the complete process is found to be I .75 R/mol deg.

New accurate measurements of the specific heat of Gd2(SO4)3.8H20 in zero magnetic field between 1.0 and 3.0°K are presented, and used to obtain information on the electronic part of the specific heat. The experimental results combined with theoretical considerations provide good evidence, that in a
