โœฆ Synopsis

The temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity is shown in Figure . The thermal conductivity decreases approximately monotonically with temperature yielding values of 4 ร— l0 -3 W/cm K at 300 K to 6 ร— l0 -4 W/cm K at 4.2 K. Ashworth and Rechowicz 2 found 2.1 ร— l0 -3 W/cm K near 300 K for a thin film. In

Abrupt increases in the thermal conductances of Apiezon N and T grease have been observed, and it is surmised that these discontuities, as well as published anomalies in the specific heat, are related to glass transition temperatures (Tg (N) = 273 K and Tg (7") = 210 K)of the greases.

Measurements carried out on bulk samples of apiezon N grease in nylon tubes indicate that the grease behaves as a thermal insulator between 4.2 and 1.4 K, and therefore applications utilizing thick grease coatings to provide thermal contact should be avoided. In addition it was observed that the the

The specific heat of Cry-Con grease, a copper loaded electrically insulating grease, was measured between 0.5 and 20 K. The low specific heat and high thermal conductivity of Cry-Con grease render it a useful thermal bonding material for calorimetric measurements on samples with low thermal conducti
