Thc Saldanha skull has no individual feature that is not found in one or other of the known human fossils, but it has an interesting combination of primitive characters that give it a distinctive position in the human pedigree. It is another esample of the diversity of character which appears to pervade fossil man, and seems to indicate that the variation in type of modern man, such as is shown by the contrasting Australian and South African Bushman, has a much more fundamental basis and significance than is usually given to it.
