✦ Synopsis

The identification of aromatic amines on Silica Gel G and thin-layer aluminium sheets Silica Gel F 254 plates using chloranil (2,3,5,6-tetrachloro-I,4-benzoquinone) is investigated, showing that colour intensity depends on the solvent used on chloranil . The coloured compound aromatic amine-chloranil is produced due to "7r-electron" type compound formation, owing to the interaction between amines and silica gel acid groups .
