✦ Synopsis

The solid-gas reactions of bromine or chlorine with crystalline olefins have been 1 reported only occasionally until the last few years . Recent work has been dIrected at understanding the influence of the crystal lattice upon the course of these re-actionszm4. Some systems have showed relatively highsolid phasereactivity, even in the dark?.

Because of this increased reactivity it was of interest to determine if crystalline polyfluorinated olefins would also exhibit high solid-state reactivity toward chlorine and bromine. The usual solution reaction conditions for the chlorination or bromination of fluorinated olefins favor a radical reaction'. Thus, the solid-gas reaction of E-(4-biphenylyl)-F-propene,>, with chlorine and bromine was studied to determine its reactivity relative to solution reactions.

The bromination of saturated hydrocarbons was studied in the GoAggln system using CBrCls and other polyhaloalkanes. This bromination reaction was compared to free radical processes by (i) evaluating the rates of reactions for a series of polyhaloalkanes, by (ii) measuring the selectivity of the diff

The response of a potentiometric sensor having a silver chloride layer interposed between the electronic conductor and the /Y'-alumina electrolyte is analysed. The homogeneous, gas-phase formation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD) and polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PBDD) has been observed from the high-temperature thermal decomposition of 2,4,6trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) and 2,4,6-tribromophenol (2,4,6-TBP), respectively. Experiments were cond
