The Annual Meeting of the Society of Academic and Research Surgery was held at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin, on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th January 2011 under the Presidency of Professor Norman Williams. The Patey Prize was awarded to Mr Gijsbert Hötte from the Department of Surgery, Institute of Molecular Medicine, Trinity College, Dublin, for his presentation entitled THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE RNA-BINDING PROTEIN RNPC1 TO P21-MEDIATED CELL CYCLE ARREST AND RADIATION SENSITIVITY IN OESOPHAGEAL CANCER.

The President's Poster Prize was awarded to Lauren Glen from the Biomaterials and related infections group, School of Clinical Sciences, University of Nottingham for her presentation entitled THE USE OF NITROBLUE TETRAZOLIUM TO DETECT BACTERIAL VIABILITY AS A METHOD OF ASSESSING THE EFFICACY OF SURGICAL SKIN PREPARATIONS.
