✦ Synopsis
Purpose: To describe the structure of the social network of junior high school students from a low socioeconomic status and assess the association between centrality measurements and academic performance. In the centrality positions (eigenvector, closeness, degree, and betweenness), the female gender and "only study" were significant predictors of high academic performance. The density of the student social network was presented by homophilic associations that hint at the existence of subcultures at school.
