## Abstract Sliding wear behavior of sintered alumina with grain sizes between 0.45 and 4 ΞΌm was studied in bovine serum environment with unidirectional pin‐on‐disc wear testing machine. Submicron grained alumina of average grain size of __G__ = 0.45 ΞΌm exhibits lowest wear factor among the others.

With the use of an image analysis technique, microstructure of plasma sprayed alumina coatings is quantitatively characterised using such parameters as the size, shape and number (density) of microvoids and the porosity level in the coatings. A Monte-Carlo simulation approach is proposed to model th
