AbstractÐIt is common knowledge that grain boundary migration determines microstructure evolution and thus, aects the properties of polycrystals. The principal parameter which controls the motion of a grain boundary is the grain boundary mobility. In practically all relevant cases the motion of a st

Grain boundary fracture in CuAlNi shape
✍ A. Creuziger; W.C. Crone πŸ“‚ Article πŸ“… 2008 πŸ› Elsevier Science 🌐 English βš– 772 KB

A series of polycrystalline CuAlNi shape memory alloy (SMA) samples were prepared to observe the deformation and fracture behavior under load. Observations were made of the phase transformation initiated from a notch and the interactions with nearby grain boundaries. A variety of different behaviors

The fractal shape of sutured quartz grai
✍ J. H. Kruhl; M. Nega πŸ“‚ Article πŸ“… 1996 πŸ› Springer 🌐 English βš– 816 KB

Along grain boundaries of quartz from metamorphic and igneous rocks complex interfingering (sutures) may occur. Under the light microscope the lengths of the sutures range from approximately 10-1000 lxm. The sutured grain boundaries are statistically self-similar over one to two orders of magnitude.
