✦ Synopsis

The sex chromatin was examined in various tissues of all stages of Spodoptera littoralis Boisd. of both sexes. In mature larvae, pupae and adults the sex chromatin appears in many nuclei of the female tissues, namely, muscles, nerves, fat, Malpighian tubules, alimentary canal and gonoduct, and in all the nuclei of the heart epithelium. In the male tissues, however, it was found only in the muscles, nerves and fat, and to a far lesser extent than in female tissues. In the tissues of young larvae and eggs, the nuclei appear with or without sex chromatin.
