When our President told me that I had been chosen to give The Ohmori Lecture, I accepted the honor with pleasure, since I had sincere admiration and respect for Dr. Ohmori. Dr. Rogers suggested that I speak of my early life, my family, my primary and university studies, and how I became interested in aesthetic surgery. This was a big order, but mindful of his wishes, I proceeded to gather the necessary photographs and information for the brief autobiography. Averse as I am to braggadocio and self-aggrandizement, I will spare you from anecdotes and personal incidents, except for one singular episode in my life and information pertaining to my early and professional life, my plastic surgery training, and my growing interest in aesthetic surgery.
I was born in Monterrey, Mexico many, many years ago! This shows how I looked at the age of 1 year (Fig. 1), and at age 5 (Fig. 2). In an early family picture, my father was a physician and dentist, and I was the eldest of four children (Fig. 3).
As a teenager, I announced that I wanted to follow in my father's footsteps and become a doctor (Fig. 4). Before entering high school, I persuaded my father to let me come to the United States to study; so after the first 2 years of high school, I entered Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tennessee (near Nashville). Here I am enjoying the first snow I had ever seen on the ground; prior to that I had only seen it on mountaintops (Fig. 5). At graduation, (Fig. 6), I told my teachers and close classmates of my plan to go to Northwestern University in Chicago. Their reaction was, "Why do you want to go
