β¦ Synopsis
The inelastic scattering of ultracold neutrons with the crystal-lattice single-phonon absorption is discussed. If the time of the neutron-nucleus interaction exceeds the typical period of the phonon oscillations, an additional width and energy shift in the direction to the smaller values of energy are shown to occur in the energy distribution of scattered neutrons. This effect is studied carefully in the g-quantum non-recoil resonance scattering and is known as a Doppler shift of second order or the temperature shift. Taking into account the result of this effect, we obtain that the energy of the inelastically scattered neutrons with a single-phonon absorption can be less as well as greater than the incident neutron energy.
