Knowledge concerning the structure, metabolism, genetic control and clinical significance of lipoprotein [a] continues to grow at a very rapid rate. An enormous amount of new information has evolved since the First International Conference on Lipoprotein[a] held in Chicago in 1988. Approximately 350 physicians, physician-scientists and basic research scientists attended the Second International Conference on Lipoprotein[a] held in New Orleans 12-14 November 1992 under the auspices of Baylor College of Medicine. Judging from the attendance, quality of platform and poster presentations and spirited panel discussions, the meeting was highly successful in bringing together international leaders in Lp[a] research and providing a stimulating forum for the exchange of new data and ideas. This success was due in large measure to the co-operation and contributions of an international organizing committee comprising
