✦ Synopsis
The performance of a fourth-order Störmer-Cowell predictor-corrector method is described. Provided that the corrector is iterated a fixed number of times, at large timesteps this method is just as stable with respect to energy drift as the well-known Verlet method, while being much more accurate. The key to arriving at a stable predictor-corrector method lies in the use of an explicitly time-reversible corrector, and in recognising that explicit time reversibility can only be achieved if the corrector is iterated until converged.
