✦ Synopsis


Electroluminescence was obtained under conditions where the energy of the reaction was clearly insufficient to produce rubrene in the excited singlet state. These reactions involved rubrene radical-anions and an acceptor of less positive potential than the rubrene cation, as well as the corresponding case of rubrene radical-cations and donors. Triplet-triplet annihilation can provide sufficient energy to form the excited singlet state.

The triplet state appears to be involved in the reaction of rubrene radical-cations and radicalanions as noted by analysis of emitted-light/time curves from which evidence for triplet quenching is evident. Zusammenfassun~-Man stellte Elektroluminiszcnz unter Bedingungen fest, bei welchen die Reaktionsenergie eindeutig ungeniigend war, urn Rubren in den angeregten Singlett-Zustand zu bringen. Diese Reaktionen spielen sich zwischen radikalischen Rubren-Anionen und Akzeptoren mit weniger positivem Potential als demjenigen des Rubren-Kations ab, gleicherweise such zwischen Rubren-Radikalanionen und entsprcchenden Donatoren. Triplett-Triplett-Elimination kennt gentigend Energie liefern, urn den angeregten Singlet&Zustand herbeiaufiihren. Der Triplett-Zustand scheint an der Reaktion zwischen Rubren Radikalkationen und -Radikalanionen beteiligt zu sein, wie] aus' den Analysen der Lichtemissions/Zeitkurven geschlossen werden muss, die deutliche Hinweise auf Triplett-Quenching ergeben.
