## Abstract The interannual and annual variations in the intraโseasonal oscillation (ISO) are examined using upper air radiosonde data at Singapore. Spectral analysis of the zonal wind using the maximum entropy method (MEM) was made for each season, starting from the autumn of 1960 through to 1985.

## Abstract This paper addresses the impact of the QuasiโBiennial Oscillation (QBO) on the backgroundโerror covariances in the tropical atmosphere of the ECMWF model. The tropical shortโrangeโforecastโerror covariances are represented in terms of equatorial waves coupled to convection. By comparin
## Abstract Monthly mean sea level pressure over the Indian and South Atlantic oceans can be represented adequately by a few uncorrelated pressure fields derived using principal component analysis. Apart from a major, and general, field both zonal and meridional compensatory pressure systems appear
Al~tract--Heat-induced changes in the linear dimensions of oriented high density polyethylene samples were studied. It has been shown that, strained under certain conditions, polyethylene (PE) samples may undergo thermal expansion prior to shrinkage in the initial stages of heating. Subsequent heati
