✦ Synopsis
The Role of Iron Ions in YAG and YAP Dedicated to Professor Hermann Neels on the occasion of his 70th birthday Spectroscopic properties of YAG and YAP doped with F e were compared. YAG : F e crystals grown under reducing atmosphere showed strong colouration whereas similar colouration inYAP : F e was found after oxygen treatment. Nd3+ luminescence was effectively quenched by F e ions in YAP, whereas Ce3+ luminescence was quenched by F e ions in both the materials.

## Abstract Iron is an essential trophic factor that is required for oxygen consumption and ATP production. Thus it plays a key role in vital cell functions. Although the brain has a relatively high rate of oxygen consumption compared to other organs, oligodendrocytes are the principal cells in the

The impressive relief from restless legs syndrome (RLS) symptoms provided by levodopa treatment indicates RLS is caused by a dopaminergic abnormality. But similar and more lasting relief also occurs for iron treatment in some patients. Thus there are two major putative causes for RLS: CNS dopaminerg
## Abstract A specific interaction between an electron acceptor A and an electron donor D can be at the origin of the formation of ions. In most cases however the ions are not A^−^ and D^+^ but their formation results from the weakening of a chemical bond in the electron acceptor molecule as a cons
