## Abstract Treatment of rats with 100 mg kg^β1^ __t__βbutyl hydroperoxide led to an enhanced ethane exhalation as a marker of __in vivo__ lipid peroxidation, as well as a moderate hepatoxicity as evidenced by a rise in plasma activities of liverβspecific enzymes (glutamateβpyruvate transaminase an

β¦ Synopsis
Iron is required for the initiation of lipid peroxidation. Evidence is presented that lipid peroxidation requires both Fe 3Γ· and Fe aΓ·, perhaps with oxygen to form a Fe3+-dioxygen-Fe 2Γ· complex. Other mechanisms of initiation, mostly involving the iron-catalyzed formation of hydroxyl radical, axe described and discussed from both theoretical and experimental view points.

There is poor evidence about the participation of lipoperoxidative processes in liver damage induced by biliary obstruction, thus the aim of this work was to study the role of lipid peroxidation in this model of liver injury. Biliary obstruction was induced in male Wistar rats by ligation of the com
Amiodarone is an iodinated benzofuran derivative largely used as an antiarrhythmic. Owing to the sensitivity of heart tissue to radicals, amiodarone was assayed for putative eects on lipid peroxidation studied in liposomes of soybean phosphatidylcholine and of bovine heart mitochondrial lipids used
The purpose of this study was to investigate the possible mechanism by which endotoxin enhances peroxidative damage to membrane lipids. Male B6C3 mice were treated with endotoxin intraperitoneally 0 or 20 mg/kg body weight for 24 h. Freshly prepared liver homogenate was incubated with either 1-5 mM
This study investigated the role of cytochrome P-450 2E1 in enhanced microsomal lipid peroxidation in experimental alcoholic liver disease. W e also examined the contribution of this isoform to the increased microsomal injury in alcoholic liver disease caused by carbon tetrachlorideinduced or iron-i
