β¦ Synopsis
In "The Road to Damascus" (a selection from the short story collection Fire Ants and Other Stories by Gerald Duff), a country funeral in East Texas for a man killed in an attempted robbery of an auto parts store is the setting for an encounter between two classes of persons -- an educated, jaded, failed part-time teacher and the redneck tattooed brother of the dead man, out to get payback for his kin. The failed teacher learns the power of persuasion which an older woman may have as he witnesses the bargaining taking place about the true ownership of a new red Dodge pickup. Like Saul of Tarsus, the teacher becomes a new man with a new name after the experience.
