✦ Synopsis

An analysis is given of the response of a system having repeated natural frequencies to force or displacement excitation. The latter may be imposed either at a support or internally at one of the co-ordinates of the system. A procedure is described for determining the repeated frequency and associated modes of a beam; the technique is an adaptation of the Myklestad-Prohl method.

A general vibrational model of a continuous system with arbitrary linear and cubic operators is considered. Approximate analytical solutions are found using the method of multiple scales. The primary resonances of the external excitation and three-to-one internal resonances between two arbitrary nat
