✦ Synopsis
The purpose of the current study is to identify and explore relationships between motivations and answering strategies of health answerers in social Q&A. From a comprehensive review of literature and research experiences with social Q&A, a model of health answering processes, composed of ten motivations and five steps of answering strategies, was proposed and tested using an online survey. As a result, it was observed that the answering strategies varied according to motivations. The findings can be used to promote the contributions of health answerers in social Q&A services, as well as in other services, targeting answerers that are highly motivated by altruism, enjoyment, or efficacy, rather than by reputation, reciprocity, or personal gain.
