✦ Synopsis

A study of the correlation between the optical domain features and the TEM twins in superconducting YBCO has shown that in the crystals used, alternate optical domains are untwinned while the intermediate domains are twinned either parallel or perpendicular to the optical domain axis. Regions of domain intersection show an interesting checkerboard twin structure whose energetics are discussed.
