Polarographic technique8 have been used to study the mechanism of electroreduction of the naphthalene derivatives and it is concluded that the sulphonic acid group is split off in a oneelectron step. The reduction product produced during normal deposition and under potentiostatic reduction has been identified by gas-phase chromatography and UV spcctrophotometry as naphthalene.
