Abstract

The credentials of the so‐called Red Rock Fault, along the eastern border of the Cheshire Plain, and at the boundary between the Trias or Permo‐Trias on the west, and the Carboniferous rocks on the east, are examined from the published records. The conclusion reached is that the boundary probably represents an unconformity, not a fault. It may be taken to be a test case as to the authenticity of other well known and long established ‘faults’ in the structure of Britain.
