✦ Synopsis

A procedure is described for the solvent extraction of enriched uranium from the waste solution of fission 99Mo production.

An extraction process has been developed for recovering residual uranium from waste solutions of the fission *MO production. The procedure and the apparatus meet the very low uranium concentrations (_ 10 g U/L) by using special air lift extractors which work satisfactorily at low organic/aqueous phase ratios. The design of the plant is briefly described.

In all probability, the same criteria applied to evaluate the safety of the reactor fuel shall be used to evaluate the safety of the targets used for the production of fission molybdenum-99. Thus, neutronic and thermal hydraulics considerations will dictate the maximum power of the targets, their ur
