โฆ Synopsis
Laskowski ('42) described a method for obtaining nuclei from hens' erythrocytes using lysolecithin and presented preliminary data for their rate of oxygen consumption. Dounce and Lan ( '43) presented a similar method for obtaining nuclei from erythrocytes using saponin which gave slightly higher values for oxygen consumption. Some time ago in this laboratory nuclei were obtained from chicken erythrocytes using a method very similar to that of Dounce and Lan ( '43). Values for oxygen consumption and for anaerobic glycolysis are presented in tables 1 and 2. Some nuclei were obtained merely by hemolyzing erythrocytes in water. Others were obtained using a solution of saponin in water while still others were obtained using a solution of saponin in Ringer-Locke.
