The stability of the muhiple steady state solutions to the problem of a non-isothermal reaction at a spherical surface in the presence of large concentration gradients is rigorously determined. Solutions which are located in either the kinetically controlled or the diffusion controlled regimes are f

✦ Synopsis
Exact solutions are obtained to the system of a single non-porous catalytic sphere immersed in a reactant field having strong concentration and temperature gradients when the particle reacts chemically with its surroundings. When these solutions are compared with the exact solutions to the corresponding system in the absence of gradients, it is found that the magnitude of the gradients must be very large to appreciably influence the overall rate of the surface reaction.
