## Abstract The effect of surfactants on the rate of diffusion‐controlled cementation of copper from dilute copper sulphate solutions on a stationary zinc disc in a stirred vessel was studied. Variables investigated were rotational speed of the impeller, concentration and type of surfactants and co

✦ Synopsis
Different experimental procedures have been employed to establish the slow step in the cathodic growth of copper on freshly crystallized copper substrates. The investigation of intermediates in this electrode reaction is shown to be possible using a rotating single disk electrode. The conclusions drawn from those results are confirmed by the analysis of potentiostatic transients and correspond to the mechanism previously advanced by other workers using alternative experimental techniques.
