✦ Synopsis
The separation of fatty acids from complex fossil lipid mixtures is described. The technique developed uses thin-layer plates coated with silica gel containing potassium hydroxide;
the method is compared with a standard column technique. It is also shown that glycerides and fatty acid methyl esters are not saponified under the conditions of analysis.
