Pyrolysis of maleic anhydride-treated polybutadiene (PB) was studied using pyrolysis-gas chromatography (Py-GC) at 400-800 8C. The major pyrolysis products were butadiene, cyclopentene, cyclohexadiene, 1,4-cycloheptadiene, 4-vinylcyclohexene, 2-(cyclopent-3-enyl)ethenone and 5cycloheptadiene-1-one.

The primary product of flash vacuum pyrolysis of tetraphenylphthalic anhydride at 86OoC/O.O4 Torr is 1,2,3-triphenylbenzopentalene (74%) and not 1,2,3\_triphenylbiphenylene, as suggested by Fields and Meyerson (1968) for the product of pyrolysis at 69ooC with long contact time (15-20 sec.).
