Referred to as the "father of contemporary chronic disease epidemiology," Abe Lilienfeld must also be remembered for his recognition of the role of genetics in epidemiology. As an epidemiologist and statistician, Abe Lilienfeld perceived the importance of genetic epidemiology to the understanding of
