✦ Synopsis

Primatology is coming of age. Starting as a minor interest in a dozen different sciences, it now has its own journals and an international association. Stimulated by the needs of medical research, interest in animal behavior, and the fascination of monkeys and apes, primatology has grown into the beginning of a science and a profession.

The purpose of this paper is to suggest that primatology may become much more than the study of man's nearest relatives.
