Abstract
A fast discharge flow apparatus equipped for EPR detection of radicals has been used to investigate the reaction O + HBr β OH + Br. At 295Β°K, measurements showed that more than 97% of all OH produced in this reaction was formed initially in its first vibrationally excited state. Rate constants for physical deactivation of OH(v = 1) by O(^3^P), Br(^2^P~3/2~), H~2~O, and HBr were measured as (1.45 Β± 0.25) Γ 10^β10^, (6.4 Β± 2.4) Γ 10^β11^, (1.35 Β± 0.50) Γ 10^β11^, and < 10^β12^ cm^3^/molecΒ·sec, respectively.

The reaction of CH2, particularly the ground electronic state triplet CH2 [l], with 0 2 is known to be very fast. The effectiveness of the reactions involving both singlet (lCH2) and triplet (3CH2) methylene was most dramatically demonstrated by the drastic effects of O2 on CO laser emissions in bot
