✦ Synopsis

Ah&act-The surface hehaviour of glassy and porous carbon electrodes in LiiClsoCl,

electrolyte was studied by uc impedance, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray energy dispersion analysis methods. cc impedance indicates the existence of a primary fihn on glassy and porous auhon electrodes. The primary film changes little with time if unpolarimd. Cathodic polarization up to 500 mV has relatively little effect on the primary lilm. The primary 6hn may he a complicated solid phase resulting from combined interaction of LiAlCl.,, SOCl, and catalytic carbon surface. Cathodic reduction of SOCl, probably takes place at the interface between prhnary film and electrolyte.
