β¦ Synopsis
The preferential adsorption of 4He from liquid 3He-4He mixtures onto Vycor glass has been measured over a wide concentration range between 1 and 3 K. Over most of this temperature range the preferential adsorption extends beyond' the second atomic layer, with a preferential binding energy of about 3.5K/mole. Near 1 K and below, the thickness of the 4He layer increases rapidly as a precursor to the bulk liquid phase separation.
