"Admiral, how is the evacuation proceeding?"
"We've moved most of the Clan Leaders and their families aboard ships and they are just now leaving for the jump limit to go to the colonies."
Terl put another pile of important documents in a box to be shipped to the coonies. Some of them were important treaties between the Caint and other members of the Alliance. They would be important in the future. Terl snorted, if there was a future.
Dorg took a deep breath and continued, "Our ship count is now up to 987 warships, however, we're receiving disturbing reports that some of our enemies in the Alliance are moving to occupy some of our colonies. We're being forced to leave some of our ships to prevent losing them."
"Do we have enough to win?"
Dorg shook his head, "We can possibly delay them but that's about all. The general population has heard about our defeat and we've been forced to use our warriors to maintain order."
Terl looked at his wallmonitor and saw thousands of Cainth Civilians cowding the space port trying to get off the planet.Hundreds of fires were burning in the streets and tens of thousands of vehicles were lifting and flying to the side of the planet away from open space, which was probably the direction where the humans would come.
Thirty minutes later, Admiral Dorg appeared on his display, "It looks like our time has run out. Sensros have picked up approzimately two hundred star drives breaking into normal space in the outer system. Clan Leader, I'm sending a shuttle to pick you up."
Terl decided that histroy didn't matter if you had no future. He left the boxes of treaties and worries about crowd control behind as he ran to the lift to take him to the top of the building. He was fighting to control his fear and he wondered if this is what the humans felt when the Cainth Fleet had gone to destroy their home world 290 cycles ago.
