The sequence d(TGCGCG).d(CGCGCA) crystallized in two crystal forms, orthorhombic and hexagonal, in the presence of cobalt hexammine chloride, a known inducer of the left-handed Z-form of DNA. The crystal structures have been solved and refined at 1.71 A resolution in space group P2(1)2(1)2(1) and 2.

The fine-structure analyses of the nopaline synthase (nos) promoter which is active constitutively in a wide range of plant tissues reveal that a portion of the upstream essential region for maximal transcription is a potential Z-DNAforming element. Z-DNA sequences are found in almost all plant-prom

Both (dCdG), and d(CGCATGCG) crystallize in hexagonal lattices and their threedimensional structure has been solved by x-ray diffraction analysis. Both molecules are found to form Z-DNA, although the fine details of the structure cannot be visualized due to the statistical disordering of the molecul
