The authors have investigated the polymorphism in case of di and tetra esters of pentaerythritol by means of Capillary melting point, heating and cooling curves and x-ray diffraction techniques. Both groups of the esters show the monotropic polymorphism of a type which is very similar to the 1,3-glycerides. They exist in three forms-u, 0' and 6 and show an increase in melting points in the same order. Under specific conditions of cooling, the molten tetra ester gives a solid product which appears blue in the reflected light but colourless in the transmitted light.
Die Polymorphie von Di-und Tetra-Fettsaureestern des Pentaerythrits
Die Polymorphte der Di-und Tetra-Fettsauren des Pentaerythrits wird an Hand yon Kapillar-Schmelzpunkten, Erhitzungsund Abkiihlungskurven und ferner rontgenographisch erforscht. Beide Gruppen von Estern zeigen monotrope Polymorphie eines Typus, der dem der 1,3-Diglyceride sehr ahnlich ist. Sie existieren in den drei folgenden Formen: u, p' und 13, in der Reihenfolge der zunehmenden Schmelzpunkte. IJnter bestimmten Ahkuhlungsbedingungen ergeben die geschmolzenen Tetraester einen durchscheinenden Festkorper, der in der Aufsicht blau, in der Durchsicht farblos ist.
