✦ Synopsis
personal recommendations to keep this pursuit active include: (1) establishing a semi-annual symposium to continue the exchange of ideas and foster collaborations; (2) establishing a multidisciplinary planning committee to encourage both invited and submitted papers; and (3) securing a special issue of a professional journal for exposure, peer review and wide distribution. Regarding the latter point, the choice of journal could alternate between economics, psychology and multidisciplinary. Thus, from my perspective, the challenge and opportunity facing the editors and contributors to this volume is whether the NBER conference can serve as a foundation for future scientific collaboration and advancement in substance abuse research.
