✦ Synopsis
The polarized luminescence spectrum of single crystals of Zn3Eu2(N0,)12.24Hz0, measured at 77 K under laser-selective excitation, is presented. The spectra are interpreted by using Cp, symmetry, and are afterwards related to the crystallographic determined C, model at the site of the hexanitrate. The crystal-field lines are not fully polarized and a comparison with the 'Dl+'Fa absorption spectrum recorded at various temperatures indicates that the effect may be linked to the cooling of the crystal. Data on polycrystalline Mg,E~~(N03)1~.24H~O are also presented. The small differences in the crystal-field transitions between the Mg and Zn compounds are discussed.
