Abstract
The vector play operator is the solution operator of a class of evolution variational inequalities arising in continuum mechanics. For regular data, the existence of solutions is easily obtained from general results on maximal monotone operators. If the datum is a continuous function of bounded variation, then the existence of a weak solution is usually proved by means of a time discretization procedure. In this paper we give a short proof of the existence of the play operator on rectifiable curves making use of basic facts of measure theory. We also drop the separability assumptions usually made by other authors. Copyright Β© 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Every non-reflexive subspace of K(H), the space of compact operators on a Hilbert space H, contains an asymptotically isometric copy of c 0 . This, along with a result of Besbes, shows that a subspace of K(H) has the fixed point property if and only if it is reflexive.
Let H be a separable infinite-dimensional complex Hilbert space and let A B β B H , where B H is the algebra of operators on H into itself. Let Ξ΄ A B B H β B H denote the generalized derivation Ξ΄ AB X = AX -XB. This note considers the relationship between the commutant of an operator and the commuta
Kaplansky density theorem is extremely useful in dealing with \* -algebras of operators. This theorem says that if is a C \* -algebra of B(H) with a strong closure , then the unit ball 1 of is strongly dense in the unit ball 1 of . Many deep results for the operator algebra are deduced with this tec
## Abstract A novel miniature antenna loaded with a spaceβfilling shaped transmission line is presented. Return loss and antenna gain results are compared with a traditional square patch. Experimental results show that the antenna presents an electrical area 18 times less than the square patch. Β© 2
