β¦ Synopsis
Nitroso-a-naphthol was introduced in xgrg by BELLWCCI~ as a calorimetric reagent for the estimation of cobalt. YQE r~~~ 13~1tTox~ described a photometric procedure in which the cobalt complex was developed in an ammoniacal citrate solution; this method was subject to intcrfcrcnccs by nickel, copper, manganese and large amounts of iron. That first cstr:\ction proccdurc (by benzene) was described by CARnIsI, JL'P;G ASI) 'I~GI~su.\S~. Recently BAI<O~ published a method especially adapted to the dctcnrmination of tracts of cobalt in fodder and soil. The effect of a large number of elements in 5 mg quantities was invcstisated and his method proved to be hi&ly seIectivc and sensitive.
