We would like to report our findings concerning a new reaction arising from the photolysis n of 1,1,2,2_tetraphenylethane (1)'. The significance attached to this reaction lies not only in the formation of an unusual photochemical rearrangement product but also in the discovery of a 3 new type of photochemical process, a di-n-ethane reaction .
