✦ Synopsis
We introduce a new model in order to describe the scattering of an atom from a top. We propose to "paint" the nonspherical atom-molecule potential function onto the surface of a soft sphere. That is, the interaction between the atom and the molecule is an asymmetric delta-function shell superimposed on a soft repulsive sphere. The coupled-hannel differential equations are exactly reduced to coupled linear equations. A tery useful property of these equations is that truncation preserves the unitarity of the S matrix. * J-S.
