โœฆ Synopsis

2 contrast to the extensive examples of oxidative self-coupling of monohydric phenols', reports of successful oxidative coupling of dissimilar phenols are very limited. Apart from the minor products resulting from ferric chloride oxidation of p-cresol* the only other intermolecular examples are provided by the recently reported3 co-oxidation of p-cresol with 2,bdimethyl and 2,4,6_trimethylphenol. This communication sumnarises some of our observations in this area with particular reference to the synthesis of tetrahydrodibenzofuranones.

## Abstract The kinetics of the persulfate oxidation of phenol, __p__โ€ethylphenol, and 1โ€naphthol in the presence of 4โ€aminoantipyrine under basic condition was studied. Parallel oxidation of 4โ€aminoantipyrine was observed to influence the rate law in a very complicatedway. The rate law was simplif
