The problem of the optimal control of systems modeled by transfer functions containing pure time delays is transformed to a differential-difference equation formulation. The optimal feedback control law analogous to that of Kalman [ 121 for undelayed systems is applied to these problems. The case wh

β¦ Synopsis
A method for computing optimal open loop control policies for systems modeled by linear transfer functions containing time delays is developed. Examples worked and intuitive arguments suggest that the optimal policy will always end on an unconstrained (and possibly singular) trajectory due to time delays. The method allows the straightforward computation of the best procedures for making planned changes in operating conditions within the domain where the linear model is valid.
