✦ Synopsis


The orientation dependence of slip plane and slip line morphology in binary /ICuZn and ternarv p(CuNi)Zn alloy crystals at room temperature was investigated. Addition of nickel increases the critical temperature for ordering. T, and results in a considerable change in slip behaviour of /3 brass. The operative slip system in the binary /?CuZn is [I IO; . regardless of crystal orientation.
On the other hand. in ternary alloys. slip on the (I 12) (I 1 I ) system appears to be preferred for deformation.
