✦ Synopsis
The observation of surface spin wave modes in nickel films prepared by oblique incidence onto glass substrates is reported. The variations in both intensity and position of these modes with the angle between the applied magnetic field and the film normal can be interpreted in terms of surface inhomogeneity models of Puszkarski, with reference to a uniaxial surface anisotropy created as a result of oblique growth. The value of the exchange constant D is found to be (49 __. 3) x 10 -30 ergcm -2, in agreement with those of other workers.
